An Introduction to Dragon Ball Super Card Game Fusion World

George Giannoulidis - 02 May 2024

Dragon Ball Super Card Game Fusion World is a new TCG based on the Japanese manga and anime franchise Dragon Ball. As you can probably expect, this TCG features numerous warriors from the Dragon Ball franchise that you can use in battles with other players.

Although Dragon Ball Super Card Game Fusion World was released only 2 months ago, it has already managed to attract numerous TCG players around the world. After all, a Dragon Ball card game is no news to TCG fans worldwide… But, more on that, later on!

In this guide, we will discover and analyze everything you should know about the new Dragon Ball Super Card Game Fusion World before you enter the game. From the gameplay and the card types, to rarities and Dragon Ball Fusion World products, nothing has been left out from this guide.

Is Dragon Ball Super Card Game Fusion World a Replacement of The First Dragon Ball TCG?

For those who don’t know: The Dragon Ball franchise already had a TCG game. However, Bandai has decided to replace it with a brand new game in 2024! According to the company (and our opinion!), Dragon Ball Super Card Game Fusion promises a more intuitive fighting experience.

The “old” Dragon Ball TCG is now called Dragon Ball Super Card Game Masters and will continue to release new booster sets. Keep in mind, however, that you won’t be able to use cards from Masters in the new Fusion World.

In other words, Fusion World is a much simpler but just as fun version of Masters. Does this mean that Masters TCG will end? Nobody knows.

What we can say for sure is that Dragon Ball Super Card Game Fusion World is becoming extremely popular among TCG fans!

Dragon Ball Fusion World Products: Starter Decks and First Booster Set

On its first day, Dragon Ball Super Card Game Fusion World released four pre-constructed starter decks. These four starter decks feature Son Goku, Vegeta, Broly and Frieza. Each one of these starter decks have different colors for the leader (red, blue, green and yellow) which (as with One Piece and other TCGs) also mean different characteristics/classes.

All four starter decks have a different play style and you can opt for your own preferable starter deck based on this information. Son Goku’s starter deck is a good choice for newcomers, as it contains many easy-to-understand cards with great effects and has a balanced gameplay.

Vegeta’s starter deck is more of a control deck that requires you to keep a number of cards in your hand in order to unleash the power of your deck and beat your opponent. On the other hand, Broly’s starter deck comes with multiple ways to manipulate the energy and increase your power to defeat your opponent.

Last but not least, Frieza’s starter deck offers you the ability to control the board and lead your forces to beat your rivals.

Finally, the first booster set of Dragon Ball Super Card Game Fusion World was Awakened Pulse. This set contained 8 new and different leader cards (2 for each color). By opening packs, players also have the chance to find 12 different secret rares and 12 different super rare cards. Of course, this was just the beginning of the brand new Dragon Ball TCG. More booster sets will be released soon. FB02 - Blazing Aura - is the next one, scheduled for release in just a few days, on May 10, 2024.

Dragon Ball Super Card Game Fusion World: Card Types and Rarities

Dragon Ball Super Card Game Fusion World comes with 3 different card types and 6 different rarities! Each of these 3 cards has its own meaning and role in the game, giving players different play styles in each round. Let’s find out what these 3 card types are:

1. Leader Cards

Leader cards are the key element of a Dragon Ball Fusion World deck. Each leader card has its own power, special trait, color and ability. You can use the power of your leader card to attack opposing leaders or battle cards each turn.

However, the Dragon Ball TCG also introduces a unique trait to its leader cards. Leader cards also have an awakened form (power-up), activated when your leader’s health is reduced to half. To awaken your leader card you have to turn the card around and use the back mode of your leader. Finally, the game also allows you to form combos with other cards, strengthen your leader card and deal a large amount of damage.

2. Battle Cards

Battle cards are probably the most useful cards in the Dragon Ball Super Card Game Fusion World TCG. As with leaders, these cards also have a power attack and an ability.

Apart from battling other battle cards or your opponents leader, you can use a battle card to create a combo and charge your leader, charge your energy area or activate unique abilities.

3. Extra Cards

Extra cards are single use cards that can activate powerful skills. Each extra card has its own cost and ability. You can use these extra cards to empower your leader, reduce the cost of a card in your hand, deal a significant amount of damage to the opponent's cards and numerous other things.

Dragon Ball Super Card Game Fusion World: Card Rarity

As with most TCGs in the market, Dragon Ball Super Card Game Fusion World has different rarities. These rarities show the difficulty of pulling a card from a booster pack and therefore determine its value.

In this TCG the rarity of a card can be found in the bottom right corner. As of today, there are 7 different card rarities you can find in Dragon Ball Super Card Game Fusion World:

  • Leader (L)

  • Common (C)

  • Uncommon (UC)

  • Rare (R)

  • Super Rare (SR)

  • Secret Rare (SCR)

  • Promotion (PR)
