Yu-Gi-Oh! Age of Overlord - 10 Best Cards to Look For

George Giannoulidis - 01 November 2023

We’re back with yet another tier list from the latest Yu-Gi-Oh TCG core set, Age of Overlord. After playtesting the new set for about 2 weeks, we can safely say that it's one of the best additions to the meta we’ve seen in a long time.

The set is full of brand new engines and themes and very powerful generic cards that will be used in numerous meta decks. The truth is that some of the themes we will welcome in this set, like Diabellstar, will be even more promising in the coming months.

With that in mind, let’s take a look at the 10 cards that the BFC team highly recommends you to grab from the brand new AGOV set.

Creating our Tier-List: How Did We Pick the Cards Below?

As with most of our Yu-Gi-Oh TCG tier lists, for this list we have carefully evaluated and handpicked the top cards that we think will have a place in the meta. In other words, this list was not created with high rarity or collector value in mind. Without further ado, let’s explore the best 10 cards to look for in Age of Overlord.

Agov Tier-List: Best 10 Cards to Look For in Age of Overlord

1. S.P Little Knight

Our first pick could be no other than the S.P Little Knight. The reason is simple; this is one of the best defensive link cards ever created! The effects of S.P little knight screams versatility all the way.

The first thing that comes to mind is IP Masquerena as it combos pretty well with Knight. Of course, the card itself can not win you the game. However, it can protect your board and have immense potential to pretty much any format moving on.

2. Super Starslayer TY-PHON - Sky Crisis

Next on our list we have Super Starslayer TY-PHON - Sky Crisis. This is a card which resembles (and is actually called) the new Zeus. Super Starslayer is a new xyz monster which will definitely see play on many decks. Whilst its current use is controversial, the card itself is powerful.

Let us explain; summoning requirements is not that bad whereas its effects are interesting. You are locked from normal or special summoning monsters when you summon this card for the rest of the turn.

While the card is xyz summoned, effects from 3000 att monsters and more, cannot be activated. During your turn, detaching 1 material, can return a targeted monster from the field to the hand. This is why it’s a great card for any arsenal!

3. WANTED: Seeker of Sinful Spoils

The new engine for Diabellstar seems fun but what our next pick does is insanely good. Providing almost an infinite amount of resources, this card seems similar to the Kashtira support seen almost a year ago(!). In other words, you can do so much with so little.

A free add of a Diabellestar Monster, a free recycle of a Sinful Spoils Spell/Trap after banishing it and one draw, is more than enough for a card. Considering the fact that the theme will see more support in the future, its package is a must if you follow the meta.

4. Diabellstar the Black Witch

The new Diabellstar theme has been welcomed by the community even if it the Black Witch is the only main deck monster we have at the moment. It can be added from the deck just by activating Wanted: Seeker of Sinful Spoils (see above). At the same time, you also follow up with Original Sinful Spoils Snake Eye.

The card also synergies with the brand new T.G cards. While our playtesting showcased that it’s pretty fun with the current synergies of T.G, the card itself is too good for the future support it will (definitely) see.

This is why we consider this to be a great package addition with WANTED to any collection, especially if you want to have the engine ready for the future.

5. King's Sarcophagus

Our next pick is the heart of the Horus engine. The whole engine starts with King’s Sarcophagus. While this card is active, Horus monsters can not be destroyed from card effects while they are not targeting them.

The reason why this card is a great extender is the future. Once more Horus monsters are released by Konami, you will be able to send a card from your hand to the grave, then send a Horus monster from the deck to the grave.

You’ll be able to do all that up to 4 times per turn. And that’s the key; as all Horus monsters have an effect to be specially summoned from the grave, the card will be the bread and butter of the engine.

6. Gen the Diamond Tiger and Ken the Warrior Dragon

During our playtesting of AGOV, there was a particular combo that drew our attention. A nice funky combo between two cards: Gen the Diamond Tiger and Ken the Warrior Dragon. The community has already embraced this combo with joy.

The effects of the cards seem to help any deck that rolls with discard shenanigans and its potential will be immense as the meta moves on. Considering that both cards are common, they will be a pretty budget-friendly addition for every player’s collection.

7. Imsety, Glory of Horus

As mentioned above, the Horus engine has been welcomed by the community as a new and fun engine to be seen in the meta. Our next inclusion, Imsety Glory of Horus, gives the duelist the opportunity to a great +1 draw with minimum cost and a free add of King’s Sarcophagus, the engine’s heart analyzed above.

Apart from that, Imsety comes with an extra effect which seems to be nice as a spot removal. All of the effects can be used once per turn, which limits the card’s overall power. If we could use the effects more than once per turn, this card would definitely be higher on our tier-list.

8. Arias the Labrynth Butler

Arias the Labrynth Butler is another card for the Labrynth deck which reserves a slot to the main deck. However, for the moment the use of Arias is considered situational in the community.

As of what we have seen so far, this card can give you great support and allow you to have new options within a battle. That said, it is still to be seen its full potential to the upcoming meta game.

9. Visas Samsara

As we move closer to the ending of our tier-list, we’ll refer to another card used for the visas archetype. Visas Samsara will see a slot in many mannadium decks. You can treat the card as a non tuner if there is a requirement for synchro summon and a free special summon to the field when conditions are met.

10. Magicians of Bonds and Unity

Magicians of Bonds and Unity is a card that was introduced to the Yu-Gi-Oh TCG in the previous core set, Duelist Nexus. This 2nd print of the iconic collectible comes with a different color variation.

There are only 2 color variations left to be printed for us to have a complete set. In other words, most collectors will seek this card to be ready to complete all the different color variations. If you have already grabbed the first one from DUNE, this is a must for your collection!
